BTOOKLYN (WPIX)—Even though an arrest has been made in connection with a sexual assault in Sunset Park, police in Brooklyn are still searching for an attacker or attackers who may be responsible for 12 other incidents since March.
The NYPD has set up a temporary mobile command unit on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. Police have also released an updated sketch of the suspect wanted in connection with the pattern of assaults in the area. The man has been described as about 5'4"-5'6" and Hispanic.
The victims were usually petite women wearing skirts, and they were targeted after they got out of a subway station.
As a result of the attacks, residents have held "Take Back the Community" marches in Park Slope, Sunset Park and Greenwood Heights.
Police are also asking for the public's help in finding another suspect wanted for an unrelated sexual assault. On Sunday, October 9th, a 35-year-old woman was attacked near 60th Street in Brooklyn, police said. The attacker approached from behind and choked her, threw her to the ground and groped her breast. The suspect fled the scene with the victim's purse. Police have described the suspect as 5'10" Asian man with a thin build.
Police are asking anyone with information on these assaults to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
