We are most comfortable in our own backyards and in our own skin. Covering Biketoberfest feels like going home. I don't ride a motorcycle or wear chaps. I grew up in Daytona Beach. I feel invisible as I walk up and down Main Street photographing the smells, the sounds and tastes of my backyard.
In the 13 years I have photographed bikers I have never had anyone tell me not to take their photo. The tough exterior of the bikers is usually replaced with curiosity of where they can see their photo appear. These are men and women proud of their "toys" and they come to the World's Most Famous Beach to relax and enjoy fellowship with their fellow riders.
Soon my backyard will soon be quiet again until the roar of engines come back in March for Bike Week.
