How to be a more adventurous traveler, from the Travel Junkie
Adventure comes naturally to Julia Dimon. The Travel Junkie and host of the TV show "World Travels" has hiked with silverback gorillas in Uganda, trekked in Jordan by camel and possesses an adventure travel resume that spans seven continents. How does one get started on the more intrepid travel path? Dimon offers these five tips. She'll share more advice on travels and adventures at the Los Angeles Times Travel Show on Feb. 23 and 24. (Before then, you can find out more about her on the Travel Junkie website.) -- Mary Forgione
Always trust your instincts
If we consumed a steady diet of travel advisories and news headlines, we'd never go anywhere. After being to over 80 countries, across seven continents, from Rwanda, to Chernobyl, Jordan to Colombia, I've learned first-hand that the reality on the ground is far different. Yes, bad things can happen all over the world, so whenever you're traveling and even when you're at home, it's important to be prepared, aware but not paralyzed by fear.
