JUNEAU, Alaska -- The state capital's electric utility is moving to formally increase power rates for Princess Cruises.
Alaska Electric Light and Power has submitted an amended power sales agreement to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, which increases the company's rate for surplus power by 108 percent. The company has been paying the rate since last September.
Gayle Wood with the utility said an amendment was needed to the contract that goes back several years. Wood says the hike will put the cruise-ship company on the same footing as the Greens Creek Mine on Admiralty Island near Juneau.
