There is much to love about this place we call home.
That's why, at this time of year, I like to take a break from the intense and the nonsense to share some of the things that I'm most thankful for in Central Florida.
Last year, readers helped me come up with a list of 100. This time, I thought we'd bump it up to 101 — with a few repeats but mostly new ones.
And if you're not familiar with everything on the list, good. Take a moment to look them up.
I am thankful for …
•Orlando utility boxes turned into little works of art.
•Hollerbach's Willow Tree Café, White Wolf Café and Café Tu Tu Tango.
•That families jam the streets of downtown Orlando for both the Veterans Day and "Come Out With Pride" parades.
•That Central Florida produces a lot of Olympians.
•That locals start donning scarves and overcoats the first time the temperature drops to 65 in November.
•That it's 65 in November.
•Kappy's, Wally's and Charlie's (sandwiches, bar and bakery).
•That here, palm-tree-lined pools aren't just for resorts … they're for backyards, too.
•The Central Florida Fair.
•Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando International Airport and the Sanford airport.
•The community's welcoming attitude toward newcomers.
•That voters are smarter than legislators think.
