I want a convertible that has five seat belts. The only one I am aware of is the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Do you know of any other convertibles that my family will fit in?
Other than the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the folding soft-top, we couldn't find any convertibles that seat five and cost less than $50,000. Your five-member family may have to draw straws to see who rides and who stays home.
One problem is that some convertibles are derived from a coupe (two-door) body style that starts out with rear seats that only hold two people, such as the Audi A5, BMW 3 Series, Ford Mustang and Infiniti G37.
Even the Chrysler 200 and Lexus IS 250/350 convertibles, which start out as sedans, shrink from five seats to four in the transition to a ragtop. The issue there is that the power folding top mechanisms on both sides take space away from the rear seat.
If you decide to look at a Wrangler Unlimited, you should bring the entire family with you to see how well everyone fits. Having three seat belts in the rear seat is one thing; having room for three people may be another. In addition, if they're still young and growing, they may not fit so well a few years from now.
