Australia: Views of a solar eclipse

Poor Galileo. He never got to experience the thrill of watching a total solar eclipse being live-streamed on a smartphone or laptop. Millions apparently did this week, and tens of thousands headed to northern Australia to see the eclipse, according to media reports. They came by cruise ship and by bike, and watched from hot-air balloons and from boats on the Great Barrier Reef. It all happened around 12:30 p.m. Pacific time Tuesday but wasn't visible from California (unless you count watching via TV or computer). Here's some of what the action looked like Down Under. --Mary Forgione
