PHOENIX, AZ - A hearse driver transporting a body to a funeral service caused a crash involving five other vehicles on a north Phoenix freeway Friday.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the hearse was carrying a casket containing a body when the crash occurred on the Loop 101 near 64th Street.
The driver of the hearse had a medical emergency and passed out while driving causing the collision, according to DPS. A passenger in the hearse then grabbed the wheel and tried to steer the vehicle to the side of the freeway.
The driver of the hearse and one other driver were transported to local hospitals.
