OTTAWA, Canada (KTLA) -- A group of manufacturing plant employees in Canada won a $7 million lottery jackpot just one day after their company announced massive layoffs.

The 18 SMART technologies employees -- 10 of whom received layoff notices this week -- won Wednesday's 6/49 Lotto jackpot, CBC News is reporting.

The winners say they're excited, but realize splitting the jackpot won't make each of them overly wealthy.

"We all know that $400,000 doesn't make you rich. That comfort zone for the rest of your life is the nice story," one winner, 50-year-old Tony Mather, told CBC News.

The group planned to claim their winnings on Friday.

SMART technologies announced on Tuesday that it is laying off some 200 of its 300 employees.
