LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A woman is undergoing a landmark surgery to attach a bionic hand and arm after she lost the arm in a deadly bus crash 5-months ago.
The operation on 59-year-old Rosario Velasco will be the first of its kind in California, according to hospital officials.
California Hospital Medical Center surgeon Gary Chen will connect the prosthetic to nerves that have been useless since the accident in Mexico.
Velasco's daughter Norma Martinez said she is very excited that her mom will be able to "do the things that she wants to do again, which is hug the family, hug the grand kids, cook for them."
Doctor's say Velasco may have to undergo a follow up surgery but that everything has gone according to plan so far.
Four people were killed in the crash.
