Christian Bale will don the dark suit one last time for "The Dark Knight Rises," which opens July 19. And since the first live-action Batman, Lewis Wilson in 1943, to the most recent, audiences have thrived on watching the character (and his cars and costumes) evolve. No doubt you have your favorite, but alas, poor George Clooney will never live down those nipples.

Lewis Wilson was the first actor to play the DC Comics character of Batman in live action. Columbia Pictures released the 15-chapter serial titled "Batman" in 1943. Douglas Croft played Robin.
