After receiving 12 nods, including one for best picture, director Steven Spielberg's big-screen portrayal of the 16th U.S. president generated 17% more at the box office than the weekend before. With $6.3 million, according to an estimate from distributor Walt Disney Studios, its domestic total is now a fantastic $152.6 million.
After taking home eight nominations, including best picture, "Silver Linings Playbook" got a 38% box office bump to $5 million. Its total gross is now a healthy $41.3 million and the movie has yet to play nation-wide.
Both "Lincoln" and "Silver Linings" increased the number of theaters they were playing in this weekend, but not by enough to explain their increased ticket sales.
Also benefiting on a more modest scale was best picture nominee "Amour." Sony Pictures Classics expanded the European import from three to 15 theaters and more than tripled its box office take to $270,600.
